    Hi.
We are a couple from India and we are planning to visit Switzerland in September.
Is September a good time to visit there. We will be visiting Paris first , then take train from Paris to zurich. Will be reaching zurich in afternoon around 12pm. From zurich we shall hire a car for 4-5 days. We will start from Interlaken, 1-2days there , them Interlaken to tasch , park car in tasch for a day , visit Matterhorn same day , and then return to Lucerne . 2days at Lucerne then back to zurich for a day . Please let me know is the planning ok for September?

    Hello Tiyashdasgup,

The answer to this question does depend a bit on the time you want to spend on the mountain and how long of a day is ok for you.

To figure out travelling times by train make sure you get familiar with the timetable provided below and in the second link find my favourite site for planning trips by car:

    Hi Tiyashdasgup,

I don’t recommend hiring a car for this itinerary. The trains will save you time and offer a more comfortable and eco-friendlier journey. For example: the train from Paris stops in Basel. Basel to Interlaken by trains takes about 2 hours. If you stay on the train to reach Zurich, you’ll spend another hour, then probably another hour to hire the car and leave the city, and finally 1h30-2h30 to reach Interlaken, depending on the traffic. You can save a bit of time by hiring the car in Basel if that’s not costlier for you, but overall it’s not very convenient.

Also there is no direct road from Interlaken to Zermatt. You’ll have to put the car on a car train, then park in Täsch, as you know, to get another train. It’s much simpler to just stick to the trains all the way. You’ll have more time for sightseeing and a more relaxed trip.

    Hi Arno-

I’ll add that parking in Luzern ( or any Swiss city) can be very expensive. On very rare occasions I park overnight in the garage at the Bahnhof and spend on the order of 55-60 CHF for the privilege.

Some of the luxury hotels do have parking available, I believe, but I don’t know what the cost is.
