In September we will be in Wengen and will then travel to Lugano. Is it feasible to get from Wengen back to Luzern in time to catch the William Tell Express, or will it be more sensible to just catch a regular train from Luzern to Lugano ? We will hold Swiss Travel passes.

    Hi helenfrank,

It’s doable, but quite a long trip. The Wilhelm Tell Express departs from Lucerne at 11:12 AM, so you’d be leaving Wengen around 8:00 at the latest.

Another option is the Centovalli Railway between Domodossola (Italy) and Locarno (Switzerland). It’s completely covered by your Swiss Travel Pass. Both routes are wonderful.

Thank you Annika. We are already booked to stay in Lugano after Wengen. If we took the second option (via Domodossola) what would likely travel time be all the way from Wengen to Lugano (how many train changes?). Your advice is most appreciated.

    Hi helenfrank,

The other option suggested by Annika takes 6 hours, or a bit more in some cases. You can fill out “Wengen to Lugano” in the timetable. You’ll first see the quickest standard route. Click “advanced search” and fill out the via-stations Domodossola and Locarno to see the suggested route.
