Hello to the My Swiss Alps Family from Mike in Australia.

My wife and I are spending 6 days in Switzerland and need to get from Wengen to St Moritz on Tuesday 1st September 2020 and we will have the Swiss Travel Pass. My plan was to catch the Glacier Express so do I need to go from Interlaken West to Bern to Zurich to Chur to St Moritz. This route was suggested to me at a travel expo that I attended today and when I looked at it on a map it seemed to be a long route but if we see nice scenery we are happy to do what ever route you suggest. Our travel date is not flexible. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Regards Mike.

    Hello Mike!

If you want to travel by Glacier Express, you’ll first have to travel from Wengen to Brig, as that’s where you can board the Glacier Express. Mind to leave early, as only a few Glacier Express trains leave from Brig in the morning each day. You can then stay seated all the way to St. Moritz. Please find a full description of the route at http://www.myswissalps.com/glacierexpress/gettingthere. You’ll find links to the Glacier Express timetable there, and you can check any journey and each segment of it with the aid of the SBB timetable at http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable as well.

An alternative is Wengen-Interlaken-Lucerne (which is part of the Golden Pass route: http://www.myswissalps.com/goldenpass/gettingthere)-Zurich-Chur-St. Moritz. This is not the Glacier Express route, but it’s definitely scenic as well.

Whichever route you’ll pick, it will be fully covered by your Swiss Travel Pass: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity. If you travel by Glacier Express, you do need additional seat reservations though: http://www.myswissalps.com/glacierexpress/gettingthere.

    The Glacier Express doesn’t stop at Visp. Just saying . . . . 😉

You were quoted the fastest route, as it goes round the Swiss ‘mittelland’ (the lower altitude Swiss plateau) on fast inter-city trains.

If you want to use the Glacier Express, you need to go Wengen – Brig – Glacier Express – St Moritz. You need to depart Wengen at 07.03 or 09.03 to complete the route in the daytime

Correct, I can see how my phrasing can be confusing. Adjusted!
