    Hi all,

Firstly, thanks for all previous replies to my queries on our Switzerland travels. This forum and site is so helpful in planning an independent trip.

    Another few questions please…

    1. We will be taking a train from Chur to Tirano, then back to stay at Berghaus Diavolezza for one night before heading to Lugano via the Oberalp pass. We want to stay one night before Diavolezza so we can get up the mountain early to make the most of our stay, so are after suggestions – should we stay in Poschiavo, Alp Grum, Ospizio Bernina, or Pontresina?

    2. Will getting down from Berghaus Diavolezza and onto a train to take us to Lugano via the Oberalp pass and Airolo be do-able? We chose this route instead of the Tirano to Lugano bus through Italy so we could train through the pass.

    Thanks,

    Narelle

    Hi Narelle,

Glad you like it here 🙂

    1. Alp Grüm and Ospizio Bernina are in the middle of nature with nothing else around. Poschiavo and Pontresina are both worth it for one night I’d say. Poschiavo makes more sense logistically, otherwise you’d cross the Bernina Pass three times.

    2. It’s certainly doable but it’s a long trip (about 8 hours). You can optionally take the Glacier Express from St. Moritz to Andermatt: http://www.myswissalps.com/gl acierexpress.

    Agree with Arno.

Staying at Alp Grum or Ospizio Bernina would be similar to staying at Diavolezza – choose those if you want all your stays to be in the middle of nowhere, otherwise Poschiavo, or Le Prese (where the Bernina Railway runs along the main street in amongst all the road traffic and past some of the hotels!) Defintely stay the south side of Diavolezza to make your journey logical – ie

    Tirano – Poschiavo – Diavolezza – Samedan – Reichenau Tamins – Disentis – Andermatt – Göschenen – Lugano
