Hi DEs,

We understand that October is the harvest of the vines and we would like to know if there are any places that offer wine-tasting with/without a meal around Montreux or Martigny. We won’t be driving so we can only visit places that are accessible by train or bus. Thank you.

Hi DEs, we will be visiting Kandersteg to ride the mountain coaster as well as visit Lake Oeschinen. How do we get there from Interlaken West Station? Please advise.

Hi Kaira428,

Sure, there are plenty of wine-tasting options. You may like the rides offered by the Lavaux Express near Montreux. You'll find a short description and a link at www.myswissalps.com/activities/culinary/dineonthemove.

In addition, I recommend that you study the options at www.montreuxriviera.com/en/Z12840/wine-tourism-autumn and www.montreuxriviera.com/en/G57/wine-experiences-tastings.

In Martigny you'll find several wine caves, cellars and shops. Please see www.martigny.com/en/activities-and-wealth/gastronomy-1503/ for an overview.

Most locations can be well reached with public transportation. Just enter any address in the Swiss timetable to find out how to get there. This page explains how it works: www.myswissalps.com/timetable.

As for how to reach the Oeschinensee: you'll first travel by train to Kandersteg, then by gondola up to the lake area. Enter "Oeschinen (Bergstation)" as your destination in the timetable for all details. Note that the gondolas run until October 23 before the seasonal break starts.

You might like the Lavaux-Vinorama in Rivaz, www.lavaux-vinorama.ch. Rivaz is about a 15 min. train ride from Montreux and then another 8-10 minute walk to the Vinorama. Please check their website for all their options. I loved their selection for wine tasting. Have a wonderful trip.
