    Hi travellers !

I’m Tirah. I would like to ask, what is the best/recommended route that I can take using trains from Zurich-Milan/Venice-Zurich. Been hearing about Bernia Express too, can I take it from Zurich-Italy ?

    Thankyou in advance !

Hi Tirah and welcome to MySwissAlps.com!

The Bernina Express travels from Chur to Lugano, via Tirano, that is already in Italy. So yes, you can travel by the Bernina Express: http://www.myswissalps.com/berninaexpress/gettingthere.

Gotthard Panorama Express is also a solution for you, it travels from Lucerne to Lugano: http://www.myswissalps.com/gotthardpanoramaexpress/gettingthere.

As you would like to get to Italy, have a look at this one, it will be very useful for you: http://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/italy.

In case you are not familiar with the Swiss train system, please start first here: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/practical/howtotravel.

    Hi Ildiko !

Thankyou so much for the reply. I really appreciate it. Just some added questions:

    1. Do I must stop at Chiasso Station for the custom stamp because I’m travelling from Zurich-Milan and Milan-Zurich? Or

    2. Can I just take the train directly without stopping at the Chiasso Station?

    3. Is there any locker at the Chiasso or any other station for the luggage and how much the rate per day?

Again, thankyou so much for your help!

    Hi Tirah,

If you travel by the Bernina Express, you have to get off the train in Chiasso. If you travel by normal, direct train, the border control will take place on board, on the train. You do not need to get off. In case the controllers/police ask for it you just show your papers.

Yes, there are luggage lockers at Chiasso train station. Opening times:

    Mon.–Fri. 08:00 – 12:00, 13:30 – 18:30
    Sat. 08:00 – 12:00, 13:30 – 17:00
    Sun. 09:00 – 12:00, 13:30 – 16:30

Sorry, I am not sure about the prices, you can contact them at +41 848 44 66 88.

    Take care,

    Ildiko
