hey everyone. im visiting switzerland for 4 nights 3 days in september.. family of 4 ages 25-59yo. we have 3day swiss passes arriving in zurich on 9th and leaving geneva on 12th. my first visit to switzerland i went to alps by bus tour which was really cold for a caribbean person like myself but really amazing. this time around wanted a more personal experience of the alps with a definite visit to zermatt and probably cable car ride to top somewhere. also an avid train person i want to travel on one of those beautiful scenic train expresses whether glacier express or otherwise. i dont know much beyond what i read on the internet..

id appreciate any suggestions of which express/ trains and stops i should take considering the above itinerary??

thanks a lot guys:)

Welcome to MySwissAlps, ronnieroop!

With a 3 day Swiss Travel Pass, you should limit your trips on the first or last day of your stay. So I suggest you spend either September 9 exploring Zurich, or September 12 exploring Geneva. In between, you can get to Zermatt using this scenic route: first, head for Lucerne and then for Spiez via Meiringen. This is part of the Golden Pass route. Then, board the regional Lötschberg train via Goppenstein towards Brig/Visp and head for Zermatt. The timetable will provide all details and it allows you to enter 'via' stations to search for these exact routes. Highlights in the Zermatt area are the Gornergrat and Klein Matterhorn. After your visit to Zermatt, you can continue towards Geneva, maybe with a stop-over in Montreux.

Of course there are many more alternatives, but I think this option matches your wishes.

Thanks Annika for the the very useful information. Sounds like a great time!

on my first visit I spent a couple days in Geneva. This time around in actually thinking of skipping the city.. I wanna see more of those scenic areas with cowbells and colored sheep lol
