We will be traveling from Philadelphia, PA (USA) to Zurich, Switzerland. I have heard that we would be able to check our luggage in Philly and could have it arrive in Switerland. I did some research. Still unsure of reliability and process of doing it. We will be landing in Zurich and heading to a hotel for one night in Lucerne. Could we have the luggage sent from Philly to Lucerne or would it be best to pick up in Zurich at airport if we did this. Does anyone have any experience with this. Seems very convenient, but a bit unsettling considering we could arrive and not have luggage and when you are staying for more than 2 weeks would be a convenience. Advice appreciated.

Hi Cheryl. Yes, that’s possible. This SBB service is called Fly Rail Baggage. Your luggage will be transported to Zurich Airport and onto Lucerne (details can be downloaded here), where you can pick it up the same day (if you land early) or the next day (if you arrive in the afternoon or evening). Depending on the amount of luggage, you’ll also be able to carry it along in the train from Zurich to Lucerne. There’s enough space for bags and suitcases in the carriages.
