Welcome Globe Trekkers! First of all: Engelberg is wonderful, but not a central location for a two weeks’ stay and for the trips you’ve planned. Since you want to make long day trips, that require lots of traveling, you might consider another base town. For all trips outside of Engelberg you’ll have to get to Lucerne first, and this alone takes about 45 minutes for a single trip. The timetable allows you to find traveling times to and from Engelberg and all other locations. Engelberg itself would also be a bit limited in terms of options for your remaining days. You can visit the Titlis and make beautiful hikes, but you’ll have more options if you stay somewhere else, such as Lucerne, allowing you to save 1,5 hour traveling time a day for all trips outside of Engelberg. The city and its surroundings are worth exploring: you can make boat trips over the lake, get up to Pilatus and Rigi, visit the town itself and the traffic museum, and so on. Such relatively short trips would be good breaks for the long trips you’ve alread planned. Interlaken and the Jungfrau region can be reached well too, allowing you to get there more often than one day only.
A rail pass will definitely be cheaper than buying regular train tickets. A 15 day Swiss Saver Pass would offer maximum convenience, as all trips except for some mountain visits are for free, so you’ll hardly have to buy additional tickets. You may also consider a 6 day Swiss Saver Flexi Pass, offering a few days of unlimited traveling and discounted trips on the remaining days. Please note that there’s no senior variant. The ‘saver’ variant for two or more people is cheaper than regular passes though.

Thanks so much. I’ll check on locations in Lucerne. I agree this is a much easier place for “hub and spoke” tours. Really looking forward to seeing as much as possible – as easily as possible. Looks as if the Flexi Pass will work out the best for us. Great website. Wonderful information.
