Questions for our trip to Interlaken/ Lucerne in mid October:

If you already have a Swiss Travel Pass, do you still go to the boat ticket window and get a ticket for a boat trip on Lake Lucern or Lake Thun? Or can you just show your Swiss Travel pass and get on the boat.?

What about Mt Pilatus? How does the ticketing process work if i take the boat ride first? Do i need a separate ticket(s) for all the different legs of the trip?

Finally if I go up to the Schilthorn or Jungfrau, do I just buy my ticket for the cable car up once i get to the cable car station from Interlaken? Or can I buy it at Interlaken West train station which will be my starting point?

Thanks in advance for the clarification on this.

    >> If you already have a Swiss Travel Pass, do you still go to the boat ticket window and get a ticket for a boat trip on Lake Lucern or Lake Thun? Or can you just show your Swiss Travel pass and get on the boat.?

You can just board the boat with your Swiss Travel Pass. They usually check tickets once the boat is underway, rather than at the point of boarding, but it is always a good idea to keep your pass somewhere handy just in case.

    >> What about Mt Pilatus? How does the ticketing process work if i take the boat ride first?

The procedure for the boat is the same as mentioned above.

For the cogwheel train in 2017, you will need to present your Swiss Travel Pass at the Pilatusbahn ticket window at Alpnachstad to get a free cardboard ticket with a barcode. This is for the barrier gates you need to pass through before boarding the cogwheel train and cable car.

    >> Do i need a separate ticket(s) for all the different legs of the trip?

No, at Alpnachstad (or Kriens) they will automatically give you a free round trip ticket when you present your Swiss Travel Pass.

    >> Finally if I go up to the Schilthorn or Jungfrau, do I just buy my ticket for the cable car up once i get to the cable car station from Interlaken? Or can I buy it at Interlaken West train station which will be my starting point?

The trip to the Jungfraujoch is entirely by train. You can buy your ticket at any staffed railway station in Switzerland, including Interlaken West. Travel to Grindelwald or Wengen will be free, and you will get a 25% discount for the trip between Grindelwald or Wengen and the Jungfraujoch.

You can buy your Schilthorn ticket at the cable car stations in Stechelberg or Mürren, just before you travel. Your Swiss Travel Pass will get you a discount of 50% in 2017.
