    Hello,

First, thank you for such a detailed website!

I will visit Switzerland in May 2019. My plan is to buy a Swiss pass once I reach Basel (my first stop) in May, and I want to use it for the rest of my train travel. Just to be sure, I would like to reserve my seats in GoldenPass line and Glacier Express now.

Could you please help me with the following questions? (My apologies if you have already answered these questions!)

    1) Can I reserve a seat now without having a ticket/pass? If yes, which website can I use?

I checked out the reference website links given in your website, most of them are showing prices inclusive of ticket. I couldn’t find a way to just reserve a seat now without having to pay for the ticket. I would like to use the pass later for actual travel.

My requirement is for the following routes:

    a) Lucerne – Interlaken OST (GoldenPass Line)

    b) Interlaken OST – Zweisimmen (GoldenPass Line)

    c) Zweisimmen – Montreux (GoldenPass Line)

    d) Zermatt – Andermatt (Glacier Express)

    2) Any suggestions on how to figure out which is Glacier Express by looking at train number? Your tip on figuring out GoldenPass line of Zweisimmen – Montreux is helpful.

    3) I understand that seat reservation is mandatory on Glacier Express. How about the charges on GoldenPass line?

    Thank you!

    Devi

Hello Devi and Welcome to MySwissAlps

    1. Yes. See shop.glacierexpress.ch /gex_en/specials/daytr ips/glacier-express. During the purchase process you will get the option to note that you have a Swiss Travel Pass. You can make reservations for the Golden Pass Line (http://www.myswissalps.com/go ldenpass) including seat selection at bit.ly/2kaq6Rf. Click the “e” for English language top right of the page. (where it says “Sprachwahl: d i f e”). Then change the class of travel, date of travel and start/end points to suit.

    2. The Glacier Express is denoted as PE on the SBB Timetable (bit.ly/2HH1U7B) to plan your travel. If you are not familiar with using the timetable it will pay to first read the instructions on this page – http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable.

    3. You don’t really need reservations on the Golden Pass except for the Zweisimmen to Montreux leg where the actual MOB Golden Pass Panoramic trains operate. Reservations are not compulsory on the Golden Pass but are recommended on the Panoramic trains in peak tourist season.

Thank you for your prompt response! This helps in my planning.

I saw your recommendation on the route of Lucerne to Zermatt in another post. My actual plan is to travel from Lucerne to Zermatt and stay in Zermatt for few days (will cover Glacier route too). Would you recommend the GoldenPass line of Lucerne – Interlaken – Zweisimmen – Montreux OR Luzern to Zermatt via Interlaken and Kandersteg (from your other post)? I will take your suggested route as I am certainly looking for a scenic route.

Which route you take boils down to how long you want to spend in trains. It’s a personal preference. Going via Montreux is a long way round. I would really only consider that if I planned to spend some time exploring Montreux.
