Hello Yia and Welcome to My Swiss Alps,
The Tell Pass is an excellent solution if you are confining your travel to Luzern and surrounding areas. The Swiss Travel Pass comes into it’s own if you are travelling more broadly across the country.
You can compare the coverage of the two options at http://www.myswissalps.com/te llpass/validity and http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity.
Have you read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass)?
Note The Tell Pass does not cover all the way to Zurich. You will need an extra ticket for the gap.

Hi again, We are going to go with the “Tell Pass Lake Lucerne Summer” for our few days that we will be staying in Lucerne (Mt. Pilatus & Mt. Titlis). We are arriving at Zurich airport and will be taking the train to Lucerne. Upon arrival in Lucerne and checking in to our hotel, we plan to enjoy the town on foot, therefore will not be needing any other transportation that day.
1. I did not see any discounted train prices for the Zurich Airport to Lucerne portion and Tell Pass will not cover that portion, so no point to add a day to that pass. Therefore, we will be paying the regular price from the airport to Lucerne. Does that sound right or is there a discounted ticket/pass for just that portion ?
2. It looks like the Tell Pass will cover us to take the train to Interlaken to spend some time and return to Lucerne in the same day. Is that feasible to do in one day? (After our independent three days in Lucerne, we are meeting up with a group for a 14 day trip through Switzerland that will include Mt. Stanserhorn, Matterhorn, & Jungfrau Mountains. We will be visiting Berne, Geneva, Grindelwald, Montreux, St. Moritz, Zermatt, and ending in Zurich. The only place we are not stopping at is Interlaken.
3. Would it be better to give up either Mt. Titlis or Mt. Pilatus and spend an afternoon in Interlaken instead?
Thanking you again for your help and for your great website.

1. Just buy a regular point to point ticket.
2. A train ride to Interlaken is feasible but perhaps not the best use of your Tell Pass (especially as you are visiting the Jungfrau Region with your group).
3. Titlis and Pilatus would both beat an afternoon in Interlaken I would say.

Thanks for the advice. We will buy the Point to Point ticket for the Zurich – Lucerne segment and the Regional Tell Pass. We will stay with our initial plans to visit both Mt. Titlis and Mt. Pilatus. We are very much looking forward to visiting Switzerland. YiaYia45

Hi YiaYia45,
You can look into a Supersaver ticket for the point-to-point journey of Zurich Airport – Lucerne, however, these are bound to one fixed train and if you miss it you’ll have to pay again. As Zurich – Lucerne isn’t far and thus not expensive I would go for a normal ticket, allowing you to take any train running.
