Hi and Good Day to the Experts,

Below is our plan, hope you can advise if it is doable.

13 dec 2019/Day 1- Arrive in Lucerne around 9.30 a.m from Zurich Airport via IR75.

Sightseeing of Lucerne by walking around.

Question: Can (me,wife and 11 year old daughter) buy the Saver Day Pass now(today), use it to travel via IR75 and then take advantage of it for the rest of the day (please feel free to advice any itinerary)- our point to point IR 75 travel cost is CHF75 vs Saver Day Pass CHF 117.

Day 2- ( 4 days Swiss Travel Pass begins)

Mount Titlis-7.10am train from Lucerne. Return trip approx 12.00 pm. Our main target is to take the train from Engelberg to Luzern at 13.02 pm.

Boat trip in lake Lucerne 3.15pm, 4.00pm or 4.12pm and do the Majestic Round Trip’

Take the boat from Lucerne to Vitznau. Change to the cogwheel train to Rigi Kulm and enjoy the view on the top. Then take the cogwheel train down to Arth-Goldau and change to the regular train to Lucerne.

Day 3-. Check out from hotel at 7.00 a.m and take 8.00am train to Interlaken.

    Reach Interlaken at 9.55 a.m

leave luggage in hotel and then:

Mt. Schilthorn- train to Lauterbrunnen, Cable Car to Grütschalp, train from Grütschalp to Murren.,walk to the Schilthornbahn, Cable Car to Mount Schilthorn with a stop at Birg. Visit Mount Schilthorn first then Birg Cliff Walk on the way back. Return trip- Schilthornbahn to Gimmelwald to Stechelberg. From Stechelberg, bus to Lauterbrunnen Station getting down on the way to visit the Staubbachfalls. Then returned to Interlaken.

Day 4-Goldenpass train- Interlaken Ost to Spiez to Zweisimmen to Montbovon. change for Gruyères. See Gruyères (Cheese and Choc Factory). On to Bulle and then Bern. Return to Interlaken.

Day 5- Check out from hotel at 10a.m

Train from Interlaken to Gare Cornavin. Leave luggage at locker. Visit Geneva city. Flight to Rome at 18.30pm

Thank you in advance for the kind assistance.

The 2nd class fare from Zurich Airport to Luzern is CHF30 so a Saver Day Pass is not worth considering unless you planned to include Rigi that day as well.

Doing Titlis and Rigi in one day in December may be ambitious given it will get dark quite early.

The Chocolate Factory is at Broc-Fabrique not Gruyéres. Don’t miss the castle and village at Gruyéres. You could easily spend a couple of hours there as well as visiting the cheese factory. The village is about a 20 minute walk from the factory. Or there is a bus.

    Hi Ganesh,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps!

I agree with rockoyster, the point-to-point ticket from Zurich Airport to Lucerne (CHF30 per person) is cheaper then the Saver Day Pass (CHF49 per person). But if you plan to do an excursion out of Lucerne, for instance to Rigi on the same day, the Saver Day Pass may be a good investment. I do think rockoyster is right, doing Titlis and Rigi in one day could be a bit taxing.

The rest of your itinerary looks do-able.

Hi and Good Day to the Experts,

Below is our revised plan, hope you can advise if it is ok.

13 dec 2019/Day 1- Arrive in Lucerne around 9.30 a.m from Zurich Airport via IR75 using the Saver Day Pass.

Boat trip in lake Lucerne 12.00pm and do the Majestic Round Trip.

Take the boat from Lucerne to Vitznau. Change to the cogwheel train to Rigi Kulm and enjoy the view on the top. Then take the cogwheel train down to Arth-Goldau and change to the regular train to Lucerne.

Day 2- ( 4 days Swiss Travel Pass begins)

    Mount Titlis-7.10am train from Lucerne.

Our target is to catch the 12.02pm train from Engelberg and reach Luzern at 12.49pm.

Mount Pilatus( recently added this itinerary-will decide upon your advice/our condition upon arriving into Luzern)

Section 1: by train rail station in Lucerne to Alpnachstad; 13.12pm- 17mins

Section 2: by cogwheel train to the peak of Mount Pilatus; 40mins

2.20pm to 4.20pm spend time at the top

Section 3: by cable car down to Fräkmüntegg;40mins

    Section 4: by gondola down to Kriens;

Section 5: by bus back to the rail station of Lucerne.

Then return to Interlaken.

Day 4-Goldenpass train- Interlaken Ost to Spiez to Zweisimmen to Montbovon. change for Gruyères. Visit (Choc factory,Cheese Factory, visit Castle).

Question: What is the usual sequence of travelling from Gruyeres to visit the places above?

Question: Is it possible to do the Zweisimmen-Montreaux route after the above?

Question: Could you please propose a route back to Interlaken from Montreaux, if the above is possible.

Day 5- Check out from hotel at 10a.m

Train from Interlaken to Gare Cornavin. Leave luggage at locker. Visit Geneva city. Flight to Rome at 6.30pm

Thank you in advance for the kind assistance.

    Hi Ganesh,

It is advisable to arrive at the cheese factory in Gruyeres between 9 am and 11 am or between 1 and 2 pm, so you can also see them actually during the production. If you arrive at other time it is still worth to visit the factory, but it is more interesting if you have the chance to see the real production.

The chocolate factory in Broc is called Maison Cailler, it is open 10 am-6 pm (last entry at 5 pm). It takes around 1 hour to visit + the waiting time. (They will put you in groups and you should wait until they let you in.) In peak season once I had to wait 40-50 mins, but if it is not so busy you still should calculate with 15 mins. the name of the train station called Broc-Fabrique. From Gruyeres it takes around 30 mins to get there by train and you need to change in Bulle (see the timetable at http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable).

I do not think it worths to go back to Zweisimmen just to do the Zweisimmen-Montreux leg of the Golden Pass, as I think it will be already dark when you would get there: http://www.timeanddate.com/su n/switzerland/montreux. (the daylight is between 8 am and 4:45 pm in the middle of December.)

I suggest to visit Montreux because of its Christmas market: http://www.myswissalps.com/ac tivities/christmasmark ets, but if it is already dark do it on the fastest way and do not get back to Zweisimmen. From Broc you can get to Montreux less than 2 hours. From Montreux take the fastest way back to Interlaken, it takes around 2,5 hours by train and you will be arriving back to Interlaken very late. If you can, you should stay in Montreux for the night, especially if you are traveling after to Geneva.

I hope this helps. Have a look at these too:
