Hello,
Two years ago I went to Zermatt in December and hiked with the wonderful view of Zermatt and I absolutely loved it.
Due to Covid, I decided not to travel during this summer for the respect of the citizens in Switzerland. So if it’s possible, I would then like to go during the Winter instead (depending on how the situation looks with Covid of course).
Is there anyone who can recommend a valley with some nice higher winter walks at maybe around 1500-2200 meters (more is also ok) that could be possible in December? 🙂
The Philosophers Trail is looking nice for example, but I am eager to hear your best place(s) 🙂

Winter hiking is certainly possible in most of the valleys and mountains in Switzerland. Just bear in mind that in winter most trails are covered with snow and you will need to wear proper gears. I would also recommend hiring a guide.

there is a nice section on winter hiking and snowshoeing in the Jungfrau area on Jungfrau.ch. Look under experiences and activities then you will see a heading for winter hiking. I believe winter trails are maintained from December 1 through March 31 in the area.

Look around the main winter tourist areas’ web sites and then do a search or look for ‘Winterwanderweg’. These are the official winter versions of the famous Swiss yellow sign walking path network (the signs and routes are designated in a lilac colour).

Jungfrau area is very nice, I was there in the summer of 2019. Magical! Haven’t been to Mürren though, so I will check that up.

You mentioned hiking in Graubünden – that is a great idea. A marvellous trail in the Lower Engadin is the Via Engiadina, that can also be done in winter – check this out: scuol-zernez.engadin.com/en/offer/engiadina-winter-hiking-lower-engadin!
