Winter hiking in the Swiss Alps in December?
Ohman 91 is planning a winter hiking trip in Switzerland and is looking for recommendations for valleys with good hiking options between 1500-2200 meters in December. They are especially interested in trails similar to the Philosophers Trail and want advice on suitable locations.
- Consider the Jungfrau area for easy to moderate winter hiking trails, as they are well-maintained from December to March.
- Explore the Via Engiadina in Graubünden, which is suitable for winter hiking.
- Make sure to wear proper gear and consider hiring a guide for safety during winter hikes.

Hello,
Two years ago I went to Zermatt in December and hiked with the wonderful view of Zermatt and I absolutely loved it.
Due to Covid, I decided not to travel during this summer for the respect of the citizens in Switzerland. So if it’s possible, I would then like to go during the Winter instead (depending on how the situation looks with Covid of course).
Is there anyone who can recommend a valley with some nice higher winter walks at maybe around 1500-2200 meters (more is also ok) that could be possible in December? 🙂
The Philosophers Trail is looking nice for example, but I am eager to hear your best place(s) 🙂
Thank you in advance!
