Hi Jbarn,
Thanks for the heads up. It seems like there is a big event taking place at the Ballenberg Museum near Brienz in the next few days. So from morning until noon, it might be crowded during the train journey from Interlaken Ost to Brienz (expect standing room only). But you should be able to find seats for the rest of the journey to Lucerne and onwards to Lugano.
Regards,
Anna

I wouldn’t go by the 10:04 connection. It connects to the 12:18 Eurocity 151 in Lucerne which is always totally crowded and also very often late, it might be that it will not run via Lucerne at all. Working as a train attendant, I am often working on this train, so did I yesterday.
Given the heavy rain today, you will probably not see much of the scenic landscapes and the Alps. You could well travel via Bern-Lucerne to bypass the crowd going to Brienz; however, I doubt that there will be a lot of people going to Ballenberg either with this weather.

Hi jbarn,
Have you thought about just going down south, to Brig, via Spiez, and avoiding any of those possible delays? From Brig, to Locarno/Lugano, via Domodossola. Not sure if this will get to you in time, but, good luck in your travels.
