    Hi Guys,

My husband and I (57, 67) have booked 8 full days in June 2023, staying in self catering Airbnb in Château-d’Œx in the canton of Vaud. We have hired a car from Geneva airport. We are looking for a relaxed sightseeing itinerary and advice on which Pass to buy.

We want to drive the most beautiful scenic routes.

We want to travel by train / cable cars if more scenic than road and the Jungfrau region to the top of Europe.

We will not be hiking but car walk to short moderate walks.

We want to go to Interlaken , Jungfrau region and the most beautiful parts of the Swiss alps.

We like to eat good food but not interested in the tourist ‘traps” or fine dining .

We are not interested about visiting the cities, museums, chocolate factory or boat trips.

We are all about seeing the natural beauty and sitting drinking coffee and watching the clouds and other people go by!

We would like to buy any passes and train tickets before we travel.

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Mandy and Barry

Hi Mandy and Barry, thanks for joining MySwissAlps!

Wonderful that you’ll be exploring the Chateau d’Oex area. It’s very pretty.

For an itinerary that combines car and train traveling, the Swiss Half Fare Card is usually the best choice. Please find details here: https://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard. If you want to be sure you’ll have to run the numbers at a pretty detailed level. If you’re up for such calculations, this guide can help you: https://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass.

I’d personally prefer the train over car for most journeys, but of course that decision is up to you. You can read a general comparison at https://www.myswissalps.com/carversustrain. General tips about car driving in Switzerland can be found at https://www.myswissalps.com/car. And if you want to plan specific journeys by public transport, you can best use the Swiss timetable. Here’s how it works: https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

As for Jungfraujoch: it’s pretty far away from Chateau d’Oex, but doable if you leave early and return late. You can make a full-day trip by train out of this, using a GoldenPass train to Zweisimmen (https://www.myswissalps.com/goldenpass) and then proceed by regional trains to the Jungfrau Region. Or drive to Interlaken Ost and park your car there, then make a round trip to Jungfraujoch. Please find all options to get there at https://www.myswissalps.com/jungfraujoch/gettingthere.

    Does this get you started?
