1-month GA Travelcard for tourists in Switzerland

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named MS320 is wondering if they can buy a 1-month GA travelcard as a tourist from the EU. They are unsure about the requirements since they heard the Swiss Travel Pass is only for Swiss citizens but have seen that other IDs might work for the identity check. They want clarity on this to plan their trip better.

Key takeaways:
  • You need a Swiss address to receive a Swiss Travel Pass, which takes about 10 days to arrive.
  • You can show any valid passport for the identity check, not just a Swiss one.
  • Buying a 1-month GA travelcard as a tourist is possible, though it's not commonly used by visitors.

    Hello!

Is it possible to purchase a 1 month GA travelcard as a tourist (EU citizen in my case)? I understand that a SwissPass is needed and I’ve once read that the SwissPass is only for Swiss citizens… however, they seem to accept other countries’ ID cards in the identity check and there’s no information about the travelcard being restricted to Swiss citizens…

    Thanks for the help!

    Hi MS320,

to be able to receive the SwissPass, you need a Swiss address. It arrives in around 10 days. I am not aware of any other type of ID card that you can you instead of the SwissPass. For the identity check you can show any type of passport it does not have to be a Swiss passport, that is true. So if you (or one of your friends) have a Swiss address you can get a SwissPass.

I have a Swiss Pass and have never been permanently resident in Switzerland…

As far as I know the ‘Swiss Pass is only for Swiss residents’ is a myth, as you seem to have found out

    Hi MS320,

I think you should be able to get a SwissPass and a 1-month GA Travelcard. It’s not a product commonly used by tourists though. For details, please refer to the links under “Alternatives if you stay longer than 15 days” at http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/details.

    Hello!

Thank you all very much! I realise then that I’m able to buy a 1 month GA travelcard, so I’ll go through all the options to see which one would be more convenient.

    Thanks again!
