Hi Roger,

I wanted to check back with you regarding a past thread regarding our trip: https://www.myswissalps.com/community/thread/recommendations-for-second-trip-to-switzerland/. You were nice enough to provide the following transportation recommendations and I wanted to check back with you to see if there are any changes now that we are about a month away from leaving. Our travel plans have not changed since this post.

Hello again Sip

First note that my understanding is that your trip is 3rd to 19th Sep.  That is seventeen days.

I do need to make some amendments to the times I gave for the 11th and 19th September.

Unfortunately, in mid-September, some train times have changed, seemingly because of railway engineering work: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/train/timetable/

Friday September 11th

Still catch the 08 14 from Kandersteg to Spiez.

You will now have a fifty minute wait at Spiez.  (There is a very pleasant view from the station over Lake Thun!)  Catch 09 35 fast train to Interlaken Ost, arrive 09 59.  The 10 04 train to Lucerne will be waiting the other side of the platform.

Saturday  19  September with your flight out at 09 50

Now the route via Gossau is not available early on the Saturday morning.   So you will have to leave very early and go via St Gallen

Leave Appenzell at 05 12.  On arrival at St Gallen change to the 05 58 train towards Zurich, (and Lausanne) arriving Zurich Airport at 06 47.

On arrival at Appenzell on Monday, go to the station office and;

Double check the times of the early morning trains on the Saturday. AND

Get any necessary tickets for your journey to Zurich Airport.  (Remember that you will only have the Appenzell Card ; your fifteen day Swiss Travel Passes will have expired.)
