5 days around the Swiss-German border
A traveler is landing in Frankfurt on May 27th and wants to explore the Switzerland-Germany-France border until June 3rd. They need an itinerary focusing on scenic spots and easy hikes while avoiding previously visited places, and they prefer budget accommodations like hostels. They plan to take a train back to Bonn after their adventure.
- Explore the Jura mountains for scenic hikes and historic towns like Romont and Avenches.
- Consider staying in youth hostels in the Swiss Jura for budget-friendly accommodations.
- For more affordable options, look at budget hotels from the Accor group in France or Germany and commute into Switzerland.
- Make use of the Vue des Alpes pass road for great views and hiking routes.
- Customize your itinerary as many suggested spots are accessible by train.

Hi. I’m landing in Frankfurt on May 27th. From 27th May to June 3rd I want to explore the Swiss-Germany-France border. My only fixed part of this plan is to be in Lucerne on 28th May which is a Sunday to visit a friend who lives there.
To give you a background I have been in Switzerland in the past and taken help from this forum to plan my trip and you guys were the best. I had then stayed in Lucerne and visited montreux, laurerbrunnen, wengen, murren, and locarno and took the glacial express train.
This time during the above mentioned dates I’m specifically needing help with the following
1) what would be a good itinerary to explore the German-Switzerland-France border. My interests are scenic spots and easy hikes. I do not want to repeat the places I have already visited in Switzerland.
2) which place would be a good base for the suggested itinerary. I want to stay in budget accommodations like hostels and not fancy hotels. I could always stay in Lucerne at my friend’s too if that works.
At the end of the 5 days I.e. on June 3rd or 4th I plan to take a train back to Bonn, Germany where my sister lives and visit her
Please help me with figuring out an itinerary. Usually I do a lot of research but this time, with job changes and extra work I haven’t gotten around to even looking anything up. Thank you in advance.
