Aescher-Wildkirchli with Seealpsee or Appenzell

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Anshu66 is planning to visit Mountain Inn Aescher-Wildkirchli during their trip to Switzerland and looks for advice on how to spend the rest of the day. They want to explore only one more place, considering options like Appenzell, Seealpsee Lake, or St. Gallen, and need tips on getting back to Zurich after their visit.

Key takeaways:
  • If you enjoy hiking, consider following the trail to Seealpsee after your visit, but a safer option is to take the cable car down to Wasserauen and then follow the service road to Seealpsee.
  • To combine your trip, visit both Appenzell and St. Gallen in one day; trains from Wasserauen to Appenzell take less than 15 minutes, and a train from Appenzell to St. Gallen takes around 42 minutes.
  • Check the SBB timetable for train schedules to better plan your journey back to Zurich.

    hi.

Am planning to go to Mountain Inn Aescher-Wildkirchli on one of the days during our stay in Switzerland. The plan is to be donewith the to and fr0 by early afternoon. Plan to take the cable car.

Need suggestions for rest of the day….What should i cover rest of it…go to Appenzell village, seealpsee lake or to St Gallen. On that particular day want to do only one more place since i have time on hand and don’t like to just touch places.

Please suggest the best option and how to reach there from Mountain Inn Aescher-Wildkirchli.

Also my base is in Zurich so would have to return to it in the evening.

    Thanks.

    Hi anshu66,

If you enjoy hiking, perhaps you’d be interested to follow the trail to Seealpsee after your visit to the Aescher-Wildkirchli Gasthaus. The mountain trail is a little steep and may be challenging for non-hikers. A safer option would be to back track and take the cable car down to Wasserauen and follow the service road to Seealpsee. The distance is about 3km (roughly 1.5 hour).

If you’re not keen on hiking, I suggest combining your trip with a visit to Appenzell and St. Gallen. It’s possible to do this all in one day. The train journey from Wasserauen to Appenzell takes less than 15 mins. From Appenzell you can get a direct train to St Gallen and the train journey takes about 42 minutes.

You can use the SBB timetable to check train schedules and plan your journey: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna
