Air-conditioning in Swiss hotels, mid June

Short summary – read this first

Diprobasu09 is traveling to Montreux in mid-June and is unsure whether they need air conditioning in hotels or if a fan and open window would suffice. They are looking for advice on the typical climate and hotel amenities in that period.

Key takeaways:
  • Check if the hotel provides air-conditioning or portable fans before booking.
  • Mid-June temperatures in Montreux are generally mild, but heat waves can happen.
  • It’s perfectly fine to ask hotels about their AC facilities upfront.

    Hi Diprobasu09,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

Some hotels now do have air-conditioning in their rooms but it is still not common in all hotels. However more and more hotels now offer portable ventilators/fans on request. This is usually listed in the facilities section when you make a booking. Additionally, it’s always good to ask at the reception.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Hi Diprobasu09!

On average, temperatures are quite pleasant in June. But heat waves can occur and Montreux is in one of Switzerland’s warmest regions (see http://www.myswissalps.com/besttimetovisit and http://www.myswissalps.com/weather). You can always check with the hotel you’re interested in if airconditioning is available.

Our hotel suggestions for Montreux can be found at http://www.myswissalps.com/montreux/hotels.

    Hi Annika,

Do we need AC in fist half of September? And is it impolite if we ask hotels up front if their hotels have AC?

    Thanks Annika,

    Thy

    Hi Thy,

As Annika mentioned, sometimes heatwave can occur. Otherwise the temperature is somewhat pleasant in September. But there’s nothing wrong in asking a hotel if it has AC facilities. Most established hotels in fact offer this. And even the smaller ones will offer portable fans or ventilators upon request.

    Regards,

    Anna
