Any discount for Jungfrau Top of Europe Pass?

Short summary – read this first

Alex is planning a trip to Jungfraujoch and has a 15-day Swiss Travel Pass. He wants to know about discounts for the Top of Europe Pass and whether his pass covers various attractions at the summit. He also seeks clarification on train fares and the validity of the Swiss Travel Pass for these trips.

Key takeaways:
  • With a valid Swiss Travel Pass, you get a 25% discount on the train from Grindelwald or Wengen to Jungfraujoch.
  • The Swiss Travel Pass does not include a discount on the Top of Europe Pass anymore, so you will need to pay full price.
  • For the Top of Europe Pass, check if the promo price is valid for your 15-day Swiss Travel Pass, as there seems to be some confusion about eligibility.

    Hi Myswissalps

Hope you are doing well. I have a few questions to ask:

    1. Any discount for 3 Days Top of Europe Pass, if i have a 15 Days Swiss Travel Pass?
    2. Does Top of Europe Pass cover Eiger Express to Jungfraujoch?
    3. If i didn’t buy Top of Europe Pass, does Swiss Travel pass cover Sphinx Observatory, the snow plateau, Alpine Sensation, and the Ice Palace for free?
    4. Any discount for Eiger Express to Jungfraujoch, if i have a 15 Days Swiss Travel Pass?

Thank you. Hear for you soon. Great help…

    Hi Alex,

    1. If you have a valid Swiss Travel Pass you get the following discount for your Jungfraujoch ticket:

    • Train from Grindelwald or Wengen to Jungfraujoch: 25% off
    • Train to Grindelwald or Wengen: free
    • Cable car from Grindelwald Terminal to Eigergletscher: 25% off

You can buy your discounted tickets here: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfraujoch/tickets. I recommend buying them 1 or max 2 days earlier than your planned trip, as first check the weather forecast.

    2. If you have a valid Swiss Travel Pass, you can buy the Jungfrau Travel Pass with a 25% discount. With the Jungfrau Travel Pass you get the following discounts for your Jungfraujoch trip:

    • Train from Eigergletscher to Jungfraujoch: Fixed discounted price (2022): CHF 63 for a return ticket (CHF 75 from June through August)
    • Train to Eigergletscher: free
    • Cable car from Grindelwald Terminal to Eigergletscher: free
    • + other discounts in the Jungfrau region: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrautravelpass/validity

You can buy the Jungfrau Travel Pass here: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrautravelpass/price

    3. If you have a valid Swiss Travel Pass, you can buy the Top of Europe Pass with a discount (3 day pass for 159 CHF instead of 249 CHF). With the Jungfrau Travel Pass you can travel for free to the Jungfraujoch.

If you have any valid ticket or pass for the Jungfraujoch you can visit all the attractions on the top for free. Read more about the attractions here: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfraujoch.

Both passes (Jungfrau Travel Pass and Top of Europe Pass) are similar with minimal differences: the Jungfrau Travel Pass covers a bigger area: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrautravelpass/validity. It includes the lakes and also a discount to the Schilthorn (http://www.myswissalps.com/schilthorn), for example.

In case you would like to learn more about your Swiss Travel Pass and the validity area: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity.

    I hope this helps,

    Ildiko

The Swiss Travel Pass is equal to the GA travelcard. They are not the same passes, but in this case they mean the same.

(The GA travelcard allows Swiss citizens unlimited traveling by public transport for a year and it is very expensive.)

    Hi Alex!

We recently got confirmed that the Swiss Travel Pass does not grant a discount on the Top of Europe Pass. This is quite a recent change. Swiss Travel Pass holders used to be entitled to a discounted Top of Europe Pass, but this is no longer the case. It’s not quite clear on their website, so the confusion is understandable. In many cases the GA is similar to a Swiss Travel Pass (see http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/details), but in this case unfortunately it is not. You can read about Annika’s recent correspondence with the Jungfrau Railways in this thread: http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/topic/railpass-in-combination-with-top-of-europe-pass.

The Jungfrau Travel Pass is indeed discounted with a Swiss Travel Pass.
