Based in Ringgenberg: Buses to/from Interlaken Ost

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a summer trip to Interlaken, staying in Riggenberg, and seeks help with navigating the bus system. They need advice on purchasing a bus pass for travel between Riggenberg and Interlaken Ost station, including information on any multiday passes available.

Key takeaways:

  • No specific bus-only pass is available, and a combination of bus and train travel is likely the best option for your needs.

    Hi!

My family and I are traveling to Interlaken this summer. Technically our Airbnb is in Riggenberg, and I’m having a hard time figuring out the bus system. You have a ton of great information about the train system, but I’m trying to figure out how to buy a bus pass that allows us to travel to and from Riggenberg to Interlaken Ost station throughout our stay. Please help! I like to plan ahead and understand how to get from Point A to Point B. Is there a specific bus site to use for booking? Is there a multiday pass for the buses?

    Thanks!

    Welcome

The bus (a 14 minute journey) and train (a 3 minute journey) times from Interlaken Ost to Ringgenberg can be found on the SBB website or SBB app. You may be having problems finding the information because you are misspelling Ringgenberg.

The rail and bus journeys to Ringgenberg will be covered by the Swiss Travel Pass or the Berner Oberland Pass.

A very useful calculator is available on the Swiss Alps website to help you calculate the most economical pass for your anticipated itinerary.

We are staying in Wengen for 4 days and I have calculated that the Swiss Half Fare card and the 4 day Berner Oberland Pass (discounted because we have the Swiss Half Fare Card) are best suited to our itinerary as we will be travelling only within the areas covered by the BO Pass whilst we are there.

I have bought Saver Day Passes on the days we travel to and from Wengen. I bought these sixty days before each Saver Day Pass is valid as it is usually the cheapest at this time (again discounted because we have the Swiss Half Fare Card).

    Hope this is of help.

    Jane

    Hello EmiliHazlett,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

Following on from JaneEB’s reply – thank you for your contribution JaneEB. You can research all transportation routes via the SBB timetable: https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

As mentioned too by JaneEB, depending on your daily activities and if you think you will be traveling a lot – a rail pass could prove to be most economical way to get around. The pass would cover bus, rail and boat travel. No need to purchase tickets – with your pass, you can just board and enjoy.

Many members like to carry out a few calculations via the below link, so they can be sure which pass would be best suited for their trip:

There are no bus only passes – it’s unlikely you will probably just be using the bus whilst here. It’s likely to be a combination of buses and trains for sure.

I hope this helps, feel free to reach out with any further questions.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

Ringgenberg is a short train ride (one station ) to Interlaken Ost. If your accommodation is close to Ringgenberg station it is the best way to get to Interlaken Ost.

To find all transit stations and stops and links to timetables, look at:
