Bernina Express Bus – transfer to train in Tirano

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning to take the Bernina Express from Lugano to St. Moritz on September 30. They are concerned about having enough time to transfer from the bus arriving in Tirano at 13:00 to the train departing at 13:17 and are considering a local train for more flexibility.

Key takeaways:
  • The Bernina Express bus drops passengers off directly at the Tirano train station, making the transfer very quick.
  • The integrated Swiss transport system is designed for easy transfers, typically taking only 2-3 minutes.
  • If you want more peace of mind, you can catch a local train to St. Moritz for added flexibility.

I have purchased reservation tickets for the Bernina Express on 30 September travelling from Lugarno to St Moritz. At Tirano the bus arrives at 13:00 and the train departs at 13:17. Will this be enough time to find my way from the bus station to the train station? Would it be better to just catch a local train from Tirano to St Moritz to allow more flexibility?

    Your thoughts are much appreciated.

The integrated Swiss transport system is designed so tat buses connecting with trains are just a few meters from the railway track. It normally takes less than 2 – 3 minutes to transfer between a bus and a train in all but the larger cities.
