    Hi,

Trying to decide if it’s worth the long day to ride the BE roundtrip to/from Bad Ragaz. I assume the regional trains coming back would take the same amount of time at least resulting in at least a 9-10 hour day. I am incorrect? Are there any other suggestions? I have done it before and loved it, but this would be my 9 and 13 year old sons first time and I’m wondering if it might be too much straight train time for them.

    Thanks!

    Hi Travelcheckup,

I live just outside of Zurich and have done a roundtrip on the Bernina Express in one day with my guests. So doing a similar day trip from Bad Ragaz is definitely possible as Bad Ragaz is less than 30 mins away from Chur. You just have to plan accordingly. Use the Swiss timetable to check train schedules:  https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/public-transport/timetable/

Details about tickets and reservations for the Bernina Express are available here: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/bernina-express/

I recommend starting the day early, maybe take the 7.45 AM connection from Bad Ragaz to Chur via Sargans so you can catch the 8.28 AM Bernina Express train. You’ll reach Tirano at lunch time around 12.49 PM.  The next Bernina Express train departs from Tirano at 14.24 PM so this gives you enough time to have lunch and explore the town. You’ll reach Chur around 18.22 PM so plenty of time to get back to Bad Ragaz.

Or if you prefer not too hang around too long in Tirano, you can just hop on a regular train back but bear in mind you need to change trains in Samedan/ Pontresina to get back to Chur. We took the regular train back and enjoyed it even more because you can  hop off and on as you wish.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna
