Bernina Express reservation from Pontresina, alight St.Moritz instead?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler has booked tickets for the Bernina Express on July 27th, starting from Pontresina, and is curious if they can board the train in St. Moritz instead. They understand that reservations are typically non-refundable, so they are looking for advice on how to adjust their plans without losing their original reservation.

Key takeaways:
  • You cannot board at St. Moritz with a reservation starting from Pontresina; a new reservation is necessary to board from St. Moritz.
  • If you still want to travel from St. Moritz, consider taking a regular train to Pontresina and then boarding your reserved Bernina Express train.
  • For the Bernina Express, the first car does not require a reservation, so you can ride there without needing to change your reservation.

I have already booked a reservation for 4 people on the Bernina Express July 27th 09:28 departure from Pontresina. Can we get on the train in St. Mortiz instead? We are thinking of changing our plans on where we are coming from? I know it says reservations can’t be exchanged or refunded.

The best solution in this case will be ride on St. Moritz – Pontresina section in first car of your “Bernina Express” whose don’t need any reservation. However, reservation prices from St. Moritz and from Pontresina are the same and it’s imposible to book the seat on St. Moritz – Pontresina section… 😉

    Hi Bless10s,

Great you will be enjoying a ride on the Bernina Express(https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/bernina-express/).

However, if your Bernina Express reservation is for a departure from Pontresina, then you can only board at Pontresina.  You would need a new reservation if you would like to board at St.Moritz.

Perhaps you could take a regular train from St.Moritz to Pontresina and then board the Bernina Express with your allocated seat reservation?  You can research schedules with the Swiss timetable so the timing coincides? https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/public-transport/timetable/

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

Yolanda – it’s not possible to make a reservation from St. Moritz to Pontresina only. I think that ride in first car of Bernina Express (car without reservation) and change car during the stop in Pontresina should be the best option 🙂

    Hi Kamil,

Thank you for your reply.  I am aware you can not make a reservation from St.Moritz to Pontresina per se.

Apologies if it was not clear, my point was that a new reservation would be required, for example if Bless 10s’ original reservation was Pontresina to Tirano and now wanted to travel St.Moritz to Tirano instead, then a new reservation would be necessary.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
