Bernina Express – standard coach not panoramic?
A traveler booked a 1st class trip on the Bernina Express from St. Moritz to Lugano and is confused about seating arrangements for the train portion, wondering if seats can be reserved in standard coaches. They want to know if standard coaches are panoramic and if they can just pick any seat on the train.
- Standard coaches on the train do not offer reservations, so you can board and choose any available seat.
- While regular trains lack panoramic coaches, they still provide stunning views similar to the Bernina Express.
- For the best experience, check the differences between regular trains and the Bernina Express prior to your journey.

Hello,
I booked a trip on the Bernina Express on http://www.rhb.ch from St. Moritz to Lugano 1st class. On this trip I was able to choose seats on the bus portion but there was no mention of the train portion. Going back now and looking at the details it says that a reservation for the train is not possible because it operates with standard coaches in both 1st and 2nd class. What exactly does this mean? Are standard coaches still panoramic? I guess we just board the train and pick any seats then?
See attachment.
Thank you
