Bernina Express stops before the Italian border

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Mr. Aussie is trying to figure out if the Bernina Express makes any stops between St. Moritz and Tirano since they've reserved seats but may need to get off before the Italian border due to travel restrictions. They are looking for specific advice on where to disembark safely in Switzerland.

Key takeaways:
  • Check the official timetable for specific stops on the Bernina Express train.
  • If you need to get off in Switzerland, consider Le Prese, but be aware you might miss key sights like the Brusio viaduct.
  • Stay updated on travel restrictions, as current guidelines allow only for return travel from Tirano.

Does the Bernina express stop at any stations between St. Moritz and Tirano regardless of picking up or dropping of passengers as we have paid for reserved seats to Tirano from St. Moritz and now due to the no go zone into Italy we need to disembark before the Italian Border. Can anyone help with this Question look forward to your reply.

    Hi Mr. Aussie,

Please find the latest information about the coronavirus and travel restrictions here: http://www.myswissalps.com/forum/topic/does-the-corona-virus-affect-trips-to-switzerland. You can currently reach Tirano but can’t leave the station, so you can only travel back. It’s recommended to get off in Switzerland though.

The long distance Bernina Express trains (ie those starting at Chur and Landquart, rather than the ones that traverse just the Bernina railway starting at St Moritz) normally run non stop from le Prese to Tirano. The last station within Switzerland is Campocologno, which the normal local regional trains stop at.

If the RhB doesn’t modify its timetable given the current situation, one would have to get off the Bernina Express at Le Prese.

The big problem is: getting off at Le Prese means that you miss the Brusio open spiral viaduct and the beautiful lake south of Le Prese – two highlights of the Bernina railway.

This has just come through so they are moving very quickly to deal with the issues poor Italy is battling with
