Bernina Express Tirano-Chur, best time in day to travel + window type?
SVBackpacker is planning a trip in July and is seeking advice on whether to choose a morning or afternoon Bernina Express ride from Tirano to Chur. They are curious about sunlight effects on scenery and potential fog in the morning, as well as reservations for panoramic views on their 2nd class tickets.
- For the best views, consider taking the morning Bernina Express ride, as the sun's position enhances the landscape visibility.
- In July, fog is not a significant concern, so you can enjoy your journey without worrying too much about visibility issues.
- Traveling in 2nd class guarantees you a seat in the panoramic view coach, which offers larger windows for better viewing.

Hey folks, I plan to travel in July and wondered if anyone here has had specific experience or tips with the Bernia express train ride.
What would you prefer, a morning or afternoon Bernina express ride traveling from Tirano to Chur? I’m sure sunlight matters a bit, and I read somewhere that the morning train has a better view based on the sun’s direction and natural reflection, but I’m also concerned about fog in the morning hours (I’m not sure how common it is on this route).
On a side note: I’m assuming 2nd class reservation gets you a Panoramic view coach reservation and not a regular window coach.
Thoughts? Before I book my reservation?
