Hello again Carol. I am concentrating on you first sentence, and totally ignoring your second.
In my view Lake Lucerne is the most scenic of all the larger Swiss Lakes. Why? Because the scenery is so diverse. To enjoy that diverse scenery you will have to go the whole length of the lake, from Lucerne to Fluelen. That takes two-and-three quarter hours, and the cost of a trip (one way) is 53 CHF full fare, 26.50 with a half-fare card. However a Swiss Travel Pass ( https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/) , Tell Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/tell-pass-summer/) or Saver Day Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/saver-day-pass/) are all (of course) valid on the boats (and the trains and buses all around the lake).

I agree with Roger, Lake Lucerne has much to offer in terms of scenery. I would go with what fits with your schedule – I don’t think you will to be too disappointed. A good point, in regard to the many passes that are available. Should you be investing in one, you will find many include boat trips.
