Best rail pass for Rheinfalls, Zurich city & lake

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named AJ12 is visiting Zurich in September and wants to see multiple attractions in one day, including Rhine Falls and various sites in the city. They are looking for advice on whether this is possible and which travel pass they should purchase.

Key takeaways:
  • Buy the 9 O'Clock ZVV Day Pass for 26 CHF as it covers all transportation in Zurich, including Rhine Falls, after 9 AM.
  • Zurich is small, so you can easily walk to see the attractions once back from Rhine Falls.
  • Check the timetable when planning to visit Uetliberg, as it takes about 40 minutes to get there from Zurich HB.

    Hello AJ12!

When I planned my vacation in Switzerland , I compared few travel options in Zurich & choose 9 O’Clock ZVV Day Pass ( it’s valid after 9 am) & cost 26 CHF. The other options are ZVV Day Pass or Zurich’s card. 9 O’Clock ZVV Day Pass cover all transportation in Zurich & Rhine Falls, but you need to take the train to the station at Schloss Laufen am Rhinefalls from Zurich HB ( not the Neuhausen ).

The above pass also valid for travel from/to airport ( if need it), as well as Adliswil – Felsenegg cable car ,Polybahn, & Limmat river cruise ( going through Zurich’s old town , lasts 50 min, start near Landesmuseum-few minutes walk from Zurich HB).

    Hope, it’ll help.

    Best,

    Lana

Hello Aj12 and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

To read up on Lana’s mentioned thread about Zurich tickets, see:
    http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/zurich-card-vs-zvv-day-pass-vs-zvv-9-oclock

You can for sure visit all these places in a day, as once you return from the Rhinefalls and are in the city of Zurich, you will be able to do it all walking, Zurich is small, although it’s the largest city in Switzerland.

I have checked these three options

ZVV Day Pass – All Zone – CHF 34.40

90 Clock Day Pass – All Zone – CHF 26

    Zurich Card – 2nd Class – CHF 27

The prices in the Zvv day pass & Zurich Card much difference. could you please tell me, which travel card is better which covers Rheinfalls, Zurich city & Zurich lake & Zurich Airport.

what is the difference ZVV day pass & Zurich Card

    Hi AJ12,

    Zurich Card Valid in zones 110, 111, 121, 140, 150, 154, 155.

Rhine Falls , as per Arno’s recommendation regarding ZVV day pass – “t’s zone 116 and it’s included. The route via Winterthur is fully covered. Further details about how to get there can be found here: https://www.myswissalps.com/rhinefalls/gettingthere.

ZVV Day Pass ( if you’ll arrive before 9 am) or 9 O’Clock ZVV Day Pass ( after 9 am) are the solution ( as an option, you can buy Saver Day Pass , but it’s cost more).

    Best,

    Lana

    Hi aj12!

Yes, you would still have time to visit Uetliberg after 4 pm. The ride takes about 40 minutes; please check the timetable at http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable for all details. In clear weather you’ll have very nice views of the city, the lake and its surroundings. If you prefer something that involves less traveling time, you could easily explore some attractive sites within Zurich on foot: http://www.myswissalps.com/hi king/zurich. Our other recommendations can be found at http://www.myswissalps.com/zu rich/activities and http://www.myswissalps.com/zu rich.

Hi aj12. If you need tickets for just this trip, you can enter it in the timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable. It will come up with connections and tickets suggestions. You’ll probably need a 4 zone ZVV day pass. If you’re unsure, then just get to a manned desk at the railway station after arrival and explain which trip you want to make. They’ll get you the best tickets.

By the way, I’m assuming that you already have a ticket Paris-Zurich? If not, and if you also need a ticket for the Swiss leg of your inbound train trip, then it’s worth looking into other options such as the Saver Day Pass: http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass.
