We will be travelling a lot by trains. Some journeys have multiple changes and in some cases we will have just a few minutes to get off one and board the other. My questions are :

1) How are the coaches identified and how do we know where to wait to board a 2nd class coach at the stations where we are changing trains ?

2) In case a second class coach is full, can people travel standing inside the coach ?

3) We will have reservations for some of the sections where possible. Are there separate coaches for reserved seats or it will be a 2nd class coach just with assigned seat numbers ?

4) Are there toilets in every train regardless of type or class ?

Will appreciate any more information that any of you want to provide.

1. First class has a big 1 on the carriage and a yellow strip along the side or round the windows. 2nd class has a big 2 on the carriage. The platform is divided into sections marked with large blue and white signs A, B, C etc. For each train there will normally be an electronic display (see attached) which shows where the different class coaches will arrive at the station.

2.Yes.

3. Seat numbers. Your reservation should show the carriage number as well. The carriage number is normally shown on an illuminated sign near the carriage doors.

4. Yes.

I found this website quite helpful for parts of my visit to Switzerland….https://www.seat61.com/ especially for the Jungfraujoch journey and Bernina and Glacier Express. It was good to see the photos to give an idea of what to look out for. Hope it helps.
