Book July Jungfraujoch tickets in early June?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a week-long trip to Switzerland with their family of 5, staying in Interlaken for 3 days. They want to know if they should book tickets for the Jungfrau visit right away or wait for better weather forecasts, and they are also curious about ticket refund policies.

Key takeaways:
  • Purchase your tickets to Jungfraujoch only after checking the weather forecast to avoid unnecessary costs.
  • Tickets to Jungfraujoch can be bought online in advance or at the station on the day of your visit.
  • Consider getting the Jungfrau Travel Pass, which offers discounts on the trip to Jungfraujoch and may simplify ticketing.

Hello kind folks. This forum has been very helpful for a non-Swiss person like me to plan my week-long trip to Switzerland well.

We (family of 5) are going to be in Interlaken for 3 days. Our plan right now is:

    • 1 day for Jungfrau
    • 1 day for Lauterbrunnen and nearby villages
    • 1 day for Grindelwald and nearby villages

I’m flexible about the day to visit Jungfrau depending on the weather.

    I had 2 questions

    1. Do I need to book the Jungfrau tickets right away? I see mixed advice about July being a busy month and hence the need to buy tickets as early as possible, while also stating that planning should wait at least 1-2 days before the actual day to accommodate weather. Please note that I’m ok to pay for the reservation (http://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/jungfraujoch-top-of-europe/book-priority-boarding/) for all 3 days in advance (just to skip the line). But should I be buying the actual ticket (http://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/jungfraujoch-top-of-europe/buy-jungfraujoch-ticket/) well in advance? Or is it recommended that I wait till 1-2 days before the actual trip to buy the ticket?
    2. If I should buy the actual ticket right away, am I correct in my understanding that the tickets are non-refundable and non-modifiable?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Rather cynically, Jungfrau railways gives lots of very clear information about how to buy things, but is much less clear about if you can get a refund!

    Hi alpinesonny,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

If you are concerned about the weather, it’s advisable to purchase your tickets to Jungfraujoch only after you’ve checked the weather forecast. You can purchase the tickets on the day or perhaps a day or two in advance. You can skip the queue by purchasing the tickets online: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfraujoch/tickets. You can also purchase the tickets directly from the Tourist Office or train station.

Tickets from Interlaken to Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen can also be purchased on the day of travel or in advance from the ticket machine/counter or online. However if you have a regional pass such as the Jungfrau Travel Pass, you won’t need tickets at all and the trip to Jungfraujoch is also discounted. You can find further details about the Jungfrau Travel Pass here: http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrautravelpass

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna

Thank you Anna and 1960man. Your replies were helpful. I’ve decided to wait till1-2 days prior to our visit to Interlaken.
