Booking Bernina Express tickets

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Maureenram12 has reserved two tickets for the Bernina Express on May 17 but needs help purchasing the actual tickets since they become available only 60 days before the trip. She's looking for guidance on how and where to buy those tickets.

Key takeaways:
  • You can buy seat reservations for the Bernina Express up to 3 months in advance, and tickets only become available 2 months before travel.
  • The Swiss Travel Pass is valid on the Bernina Express, which can help save costs.
  • If you're using a Saver Day Pass, it covers the Bernina Express route, but you still need to make additional seat reservations for panoramic trains.

Hello I hope someone can give me some guidance please. I have reserved and paid for 2 Bernina Express tickets on this site – shop.rhb.ch/en/bernina-express

The tickets for this ride will only become available for purchase 60 days before date of travel, and as I am travelling on 17th May 2023, they were not available at the time I reserved the tickets. I should be able to buy tickets from 17th March 2023.

My question is how and where do I purchase these tickets from, as the information I received did not give me any guidance.

    Appreciate any advice.

    Thanks

    Hi Maureenram12,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

Seat reservations on the Bernina Express can be purchased up to 3 months in advance. Tickets are only available up to 2 months in advance. So what you have now are confirmed seats. You can either purchase a point-to-point ticket or a Saver Day Pass. A railpass such as the Swiss Travel Pass is also valid on the Bernina Express. You can find more information about tickets and purchase options here: http://www.myswissalps.com/berninaexpress/tickets

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Anna,

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the Bernina Express has changed their seat reservation window time. Perhaps to one year in advance of travel even! I have read elsewhere that this is a recent change.

I have already booked my Bernina Express seat reservations for my late September trip. I booked the reservations on January 3, so more than 9 months in advance.

Thank you Anna and PAPirate for the helpful information in your emails. I have been able to reserve tickets and believe one can reserve them more than 2 months in advance, although they can’t purchase tickets for travel before 60 days.

I do have another question please. I have bought a Saver Day Pass for the same day as I intend to stay in St Moritz overnight and use the buses and trains while there.

Can I use my Saver Day Pass on the Bernina Express, or do I have to buy additional tickets? I did read the “How to use the Saver day Pass information” on this site, but just wanted to confirm please.

    Thanks so much!

    Hello maureeenram12,

Yes, the Saver Day Pass covers the Bernina Express route. However, should you wish to travel in the panoramic Bernina Express trains, you will have to make additional seat reservations and those are not included. More information here:

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
