Buying Matterhorn Glacier Paradise tickets with a Swiss Travel Pass

Short summary – read this first

Mikhail is planning to buy return tickets for the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing using his Swiss Travel Pass Flex. He is confused about the ticketing system, particularly concerning the SwissPass mentioned on the booking site, and seeks guidance on purchasing discounted tickets online and at the station.

Key takeaways:
  • Purchase tickets for Matterhorn Glacier Paradise online from the Swiss Railway website (SBB tourist webshop) to utilize your Swiss Travel Pass discount.
  • You cannot buy discounted tickets for the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing online if you don’t have a SwissPass; these must be purchased at a station in Zermatt.
  • The Matterhorn Alpine Crossing costs CHF228 return but is reduced to CHF141.50 with a Swiss Travel Pass discount.

    Hi,

I am trying to buy return tickets for  Matterhorn Glacier Paradise online at
    https://www.matterhornparadise.ch/en/book/tickets/matterhorn-glacier-paradise

I have Swiss Travel Pass Flex.
Information on the webpage shows that Swiss Travel pass gives you 50% discount.

However, when I come to booking page the website shows reduced price as “Reduced (SBB SwissPass holders)”; (see “Screenshot1” attached).

From my understanding SwissPass is something different from Swiss Travel Pass, is not it?
When I click on this option (Reduced),  pop up window shows a message saying about necessity to carry a SwissPass card  with you.

    Hi Mikhail,

The Matterhorn Alpine Crossing costs CHF228 return (CHF141.50 with reduction). Unfortunately it is not possible to purchase the discounted tickets from the Matterhorn Paradise website if you do not have a SwissPass. You will need to purchase the discounted tickets on site and present your Swiss Travel Pass at the counter.

However there are other options here if you just want to purchase the ticket to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/matterhorn/#tickets I recommend buying online from the Swiss Railway website (SBB tourist webshop).

    Regards,
    Anna

    Hi Anna,

Thank you very much for the answer.

From your answers I learnt that website SwissRailWays is quite useful for buying tickets for mountains excursions.
It looks like it serves better in comparison with specialized websites like Jungfrau or Matterhorn.

However, even at SwissRailWays I cannot see option for purchasing Matterhorn Alpine Crossing. Probably because part of the route is outside of Switzerland.
Does it mean that I can buy ticket Matterhorn Alpine Crossing at counter only?
Which Office at Zermatt I should look for?

    Kind regards,
    Mikhail.
