Buying tickets on SBB app with Travel Money Card

Short summary – read this first

AussieAnn is an Australian traveler planning a trip to Switzerland and wants to use her Swiss Half Fare Card to pay for train bookings on the SBB app with an Australian dollars-loaded Travel Money Card. She is unsure if the SBB app accepts such cards for payment.

Key takeaways:
  • The SBB app accepts several payment methods, including credit cards like Mastercard, Visa, and American Express.
  • If the app doesn't work, you can buy tickets at the train station or online, and no seat reservations are typically needed for most trains.

I understand this works with other businesses in Switzerland but does SBB App accept. I have read SBB do not accept some foreign currency cards

    Hi AussieAnn,

if it does not work through the SBB app, you can purchase your half fare tickets also at the train station, before your trip, or online here: https://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/switzerlandhalffare/price. Learn more: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisshalffarecard/howtouse

You do not need seat reservations for 99% of all trains and buses in Switzerland. Exceptions are some international trains and some panoramic trains like the Glacier Express and Bernina Express. If you need or still want to have seat reservations, you need to arrange for them separately.
