    Hi Selvitravels,

September is usually less crowded than July and August.

    For your information:

You take a cogwheel train to reach Wengen. If you are planning to go to Männlichen, then you take a a cable car from the terminal in Wengen. Further details here: http://www.myswissalps.com/wengen/travel

To get to Grindelwald First, you take a gondola. These comprise small cabins for 6-8 pax and runs continuously. http://www.myswissalps.com/grindelwaldfirst/gettingthere

Mürren is accessible either via the Grutschalp funicular or the Schilthorn cable car in Stechelberg. http://www.myswissalps.com/murren/travel

    regards,

    Anna

Given that the English word ‘crowded’ means something that is more than ‘busy’ : in general terms, I don’t consider mountain railways in Switzerland to get ‘crowded’ to a hug extent in summer. The biggest crowds on cable cars happen in the ski season.

September is always likely to be less busy as it is not the European school summer holiday period

I don’t know about September, but the cable cars from Lauterbrunnen to Grutschalp and from Murren to Stechelberg were packed in late June in the afternoon. I mean shoulder-to-shoulder and hip-to-hip! I would venture a guess that the earlier you go the better. The train from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen, on the other hand, was quite manageable, even in the afternoon and evening.

Thank you for the information. I am hoping Sept will be less crowded but will plan to avoid any peak hours.

    Hi Selvitravels,

Yes, September should definitely be less crowded than other summer months, as school holidays in Switzerland and many surrounding countries are over. You’ll find more information about each travel season at https://www.myswissalps.com/besttimetovisit. I don’t think you’ll have to worry about peak hours that much. Exceptions may be beautiful sunny days in the weekends. In general, early morning is a quiet time to get on the most popular (mountain) trains and cable cars.
