A traveler is looking for a tool to help calculate the best travel pass for their upcoming trip to Switzerland, focusing on various trains, buses, and gondolas. They’re visiting Geneva, Wengen, and other locations over three days while hiking. No such tool exists, but they received suggestions on passes that could benefit their itinerary.
Key takeaways:
Consider getting the Swiss Travel Pass for unlimited travel on many public transport options across Switzerland.
If you're focusing on the Bernese Oberland region, the Regional Pass might offer great discounts for specific routes.
Use the calculation spreadsheet provided by forum members to help determine the best travel pass based on your planned trips.
Check individual ticket prices for specific routes to ensure you pick the most economical option for your travel needs.

I am wondering if there is a site where you can enter all of the trains buses and gondolas you are hoping to take while in Switzerland and it will somehow calculate which pass would be the best option, without having to go and look up every single gondola and bus and train price and what the discount is individually? Wishful thinking…
The Swiss Travel Pass is the most convenient pass for a holiday covering several regions of Switzerland. Once purchased, travel on all types of public transport is free across the whole country on the main core Swiss travel network. As such the STP will get you to many places. You then have to check individual ‘uphill transport’ routes for STP validity using the synoptic map.

There is no such a site, I am afraid. We have a calculation spreadsheet, which helps you to do the math but you have to look for the prices individually for each route. You can download the spreadsheet from here: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass.
5.gondola from stechelberg schithornbahn to Mirren (maybe schilthorn if it’s nice) (if we get off at gimmelwald and get back on do you pay more)(also I can’t find a price to just Murren?)
6.cable train to grutschalp
7. Train from grutschalp to lauterbrunnen
8. Train from. Lauterbrunnen to wengen
Day 3
9. Train fro. Wengen to kandersteg
10 gondola up to oeschesees lake
11. Do the slide down the mountain. And gondola if we need to.
Take the train from kandersteg to genenva
I hope this makes sense (sorry for miss spellings) is this reasonable in 3 days? We will be hiking at all of these places .
If you would like to compare these options, you can do that with the calculation spreadsheet, I’ve mentioned before.
A single trip Lauterbrunnen-Mürren via Stechelberg costs CHF 15.60 in 2nd class. A single trip Lauterbrunnen-Mürren via Grütschalp costs CHF 11.20. The paragraph “How to find ticket prices (advanced timetable)” at http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable explains how to find full-fare prices in the Swiss timetable.
Schilthorn is beautiful. With the Regional Pass Bernese Oberland you get 50% off for the cable car from Mürren to Schilthorn, while Lauterbrunnen-Mürren is for free.
You’ll nearly always save money with a rail pass (except for a stay with very limited use of Swiss public transport). So you can’t really go wrong with an educated guess, picking the pass that is an overall good match with your plans and preferences.
The thread ‘Calculation tool to find best Swiss rail pass?’ is closed to new replies.
