Can”t find Swiss Travel Pass Flex bought on SBB

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named KayCro was confused about their 15-day Flex pass purchased from the SBB website, thinking it was the Swiss Travel Pass. They were unsure how to activate it, view, or print the pass, and were considering canceling the purchase in favor of a more straightforward option for their family.

Key takeaways:
  • You can activate the Swiss Travel Pass Flex using the reference number from your email, which allows you to choose dates close to your travel time.
  • For a smoother experience, consider buying passes from the Switzerland Travel Centre, which is better for tourists and simplifies the process.
  • Make sure to use a mobile device to activate and upload QR codes into your wallet, as it may not work well on a laptop.

Can someone please help me? I created a login on the SBB website and purchased a 15 day Flex pass. I thought this was the Swiss Travel Pass but now I’m wondering if I bought the right thing? I can’t figure out how to view or upload or even print the pass! I have an email receipt and it says to go to activateyourpass.com to pick the dates we can use it. Will I be able to view the pass or the QR code after I do that? I’m not sure exactly which dates we’re going to use it yet! I’m almost wondering if I should have bought it from another vendor so that I can have an email copy or printed copy. Maybe I should cancel and refund this one? We need to purchase passes for the rest of the family and I’m hesitant to purchase any more until I get this figured out.

    Hi KayCro,

You should have received a product number that can be entered on activateyourpass. That’s all you need for the Swiss Travel Pass Flex. You can choose your dates shortly in advance and even on the travel day itself, before boarding your first train/bus/boat. It’s explained here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpassflex/howtouse.

I don’t know where this number is when buying through the domestic SBB website, sorry. I guess it’s in your confirmation e-mail, but you can best contact them if you can’t find it. The SBB tourist webshop Switzerland Travel Centre is more geared to travelers from abroad and is usually easier for tourists than the domestic SBB website: https://shop.switzerlandtravelcentre.com/en/product/swissFlexiPass.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you! I think that is the most help I’ve gotten and best explanation and I FINALLY have it figured out! I didn’t realized that there are two separate sites for SBB – one for citizens and one for tourists! I have researched this extensively and this is the first time this has been made clear. I felt like I would get the best price and it would be easiest getting it directly from the source (SBB) rather than a tourism site (of which were are many and different prices) but I actually feel like it has been more difficult….I wish I’d known!

I had created an account with SBB and purchased a 15 day flex pass on the website. But when I logged into the SBB app or website and go to ‘tickets; there is no ticket, which was frustrating to me! Now, I’m understanding why…that the 15 day flex Swiss pass is a product meant for tourists and that the SBB app isn’t really for tourists! I finally figured how to do it through SBB but it is confusing because they don’t send a ‘ticket’ or ’email ticket’, or have a ticket or pass in my account! They do send a receipt with a reference number in it. I put in my information and reference number into the activatemypass website and it will let me select dates to use the pass and I can get the QR codes for the daily tickets there at activatemypass and upload them into my iPhone wallet (this does NOT work however from a laptop, it has to be done by phone).

After all this though, I’m thinking it will be much more streamlined and easier for our family of 5 (two adults, two older teens, and one child) if I order passes through the Switzerland Travel Center or another tourist site rather than have to create accounts for each of us on SBB and go through this entire process for each one! I wish I had known this sooner as I have spent hours trying to figure this out! I think I’m going to refund my current pass and just order new ones through the Travel Centre website and now that I have activatemypass figured out it should be pretty straight forward.

    Thank you for your help!

    Hi KayCro,

Ah good to know you’ve figured things out.

Yes, probably a good idea to get the passes from the Switzerland Travel Centre. As Arno mentioned, they are more geared towards tourists. Let us know how that works out for you.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Hi KayCro,

Yes, it’s a common misunderstanding that one needs a SwissPass account on the SBB website in order to buy or use Swiss rail passes. We explain this at http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/swisspass and https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpassflex/details, and list recommended purchase options at https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpassflex/price.

Note that in most cases you won’t receive an actual (digital) pass when ordering a Swiss Travel Pass Flex, but product number only as explained here: https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/howtouse. So that won’t be different if you order through another webshop, but the procedure is usually more straightforward for tourists.
