I am in the process of making a reservation on the Centrovalli train. The site gives has three types of trains: Express, Panoramic or International. What is the difference? I am planning to upgrade my Swiss Pass to 1st class for the trip from Locarno to Domossola.

There are local trains and panoramic trains on the Centovali line, and as it is partly in Swizterland and partly in Italy any train that runs the whole route can be called ‘International’ . You can see what runs when quite well on the Official Swiss Timetable PDF:

The panoramic trains are the ‘Treno Panoramico Vigezzo Vision’ and the regional trains that run all the way are called Centovalli Express.

I really don’t like the panoranic trains on the Centovalli, which are a bizarre design and not very comfortable. I’m not sure they offer much more ‘panorama’ than the other trains on the line.

Lastly, note that it is The Centovalli (Cento = 100 in Italian) ie 100 valleys line, so not Centrovalli
