Self-guided train excursion to Gruyeres + Broc with Swiss Travel Pass

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Ramila is planning to visit Montreux from May 21-24 and is considering whether to buy a chocolate and Gruyere cheese train tour ticket. She's curious if it's worth it or if she can take a regular train instead to visit the attractions.

Key takeaways:
  • Using the Swiss Travel Pass allows you to travel to Montbovon and then switch to a train for Gruyeres without needing a tour ticket.
  • After visiting the cheese factory, spend time exploring the medieval town of Gruyeres, which is a short walk from the train station.
  • If you enjoy chocolate, consider visiting the Maison Cailler chocolate factory in Broc, which is also close by and can be part of your trip.

    Hello,

I have a swiss travel pass and was wondering if it is worth me buying a chocolate/gruyere cheese train tour ticket or would it be the same to just go on a regular train (if that is even possible). I am planning to do this while I am in Montreux May 21-24.

    Thank you

    Hi Ramila,

You can find information about the Chocolate Train here: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/chocolate-train/

It is also possible to do this excursion on your own. From Montreux, you need to take a train to Montbovon, then switch to another train to get to Gruyeres. The cheese factory La Maison du Gruyeres is only a few minutes walk from the train station. After the visit to the cheese factory, I recommend spending some time exploring Gruyeres town with its medieval castle. The town is about 10-15 minutes walk from the station or you could take a bus. You can combine the excursion with a trip to the chocolate factory in Broc. After exploring the town, walk back to the train station and take a bus to Broc, Le Home. The chocolate factory Maison Cailler is a short walk away from this stop.

You can find further details in the following links:

    La Maison du Gruyeres: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/la-maison-du-gruyere/

    Maison Cailler: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/maison-cailler/

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anna
