Christmas Eve in Zurich, need help planning, please
A mom traveling with her three kids is planning a one-day visit to Zurich on Christmas Eve. They need advice on hotel options, the availability of shops on Bahnhofstrasse, church services, and restaurants for a special dinner after arriving by train at 11 am and before flying out on Christmas morning.
- Consider staying at the Central Plaza Hotel for better experiences than St. Gotthard, especially during busy times.
- The shops on Bahnhofstrasse will likely be open part of December 24, but check the Zurich tourist information office for exact hours.
- Fraumünster offers a mass on Christmas Eve at 5:15 pm, and it’s best to arrive early to secure a seat.
- Zunfthaus zur Waage is recommended for a nice dinner close to Fraumünster, while the Dolder Grand will be more elegant and expensive.

I am a mom traveling with my 3 kids, ages 20, 19, and 17.
We only have one day, Christmas Eve, in Zurich.
We are arriving by train around 11 am on December 24, then flying out around 7 am on Christmas morning. A few things we need suggestions/help with, please…
1. Thinking about Hotel St. Gotthard or Central Plaza Hotel, but are open to suggestions of other hotels, or comments if either of these hotels would be nice for Christmas Eve?
2. Are the shops on Bahnhofstrasse in Old Town going to be closed on December 24 since it is a family day?
3. We are Catholic and only speak English, but it is very important that we find a church service on that day, and are open to any denomination and language. I read about Fraumeunster and I think there is a mass at 5:15 pm, but can anyone tell me more about that…as in, can anyone attend? will it be impossible to get a seat? how long will the service last?
4. We would like a very nice special dinner for Christmas Eve …can anyone recommend a restaurant? We were considering Zunfthaus Zur Waag, Hummerbar (in Hotel St. Gotthard) and the Restaurant at Dolder Grand. Would love to hear opinions about those, or any additional suggestions, please?
Thank you very much in advance!
