Marmads is planning a one-day trip on the GoldenPass route starting from Geneva, using a Saver Day Pass. They want to know if they can make stops for sightseeing along the way and how to best combine the various segments of the Golden Pass. Tips and routes have been shared to help them maximize the experience.
Key takeaways:
You can use the Saver Day Pass to hop on and off any regular train, perfect for exploring the GoldenPass route.
For a charming Swiss village experience, consider stopping at Rougemont, Schoenried, or Saanenmoser along the way.
Make sure to purchase your Saver Day Pass online before your travel day, as it cannot be bought on the same day.
Both the GoldenPass Belle Epoque and GoldenPass Panoramic trains can be included in your trip without prior reservations.

Yes, you can get a long way in Switzerland in a day. Even when I first travelled with a holiday pass in 1974 – way before the modern day frequent timetable was in place, it was possible to travel from my family’s base in Geneva as far as Canton Graubünden and back in 1 day. You can get even further than that in one day nowadays.
I assume that by ‘the complete’ you mean Montreux – Interlaken – Luzern (although only Montreux – Zweisimmen is the true original Golden Pass line).
If so the best way to do it would be to go Geneve – Montreux – Spiez – Interlaken – Luzern, preferably allowing for some time off trains on the way. Then, later in the day when you will probably feel less alert, return from Luzern to Geneva via the direct inter regio train which goes Luzern – Sursee – Zofingen – Bern – Lausanne – Geneve

That was a mega FAST reply 1960man! thank you very much for such an informative feedback.
You mentioned about having some time off trains along the way, it is what I am considering but not sure if that is possible or how to go about it. Any recommendations for a typical Swiss countryside ambiance & panoramic views for a brief sightseeing stop before catching the onwards train?
Another question pls. I’ve come across about GoldenPass Belle-Epoque GoldenPass Panoramic – could i make a combination of these 2 Golden Passes using the Saver Day Pass to make a complete Golden pass route? (complete in the sense as doing all 3 sections as mentioned in http://www.myswissalps.com/goldenpass/gettingthere)
The 09.50 departure from Montreux (see page 3/16) is the Belle Epoque train – which I imagine would suit you (Connection departs Genève 08.19)
With a 1 hour break on the MOB line you could get back to Geneve at 20.11 via Interlaken and Luzern, for example, Belle Epoque as far as Rougemont (11.14), Panoramic express depart Rougemont 12.14
For a ‘real’ Swiss village feel I recommend alighting for 1 hour at Rougemont, Schoenried or Saanenmoser
What a treasure trove of information 1960man! Indeed thank you so much for that. Now I am getting a clearer mind & less uncertain as to how to go about this one day trip fully maximizing the use of my Saver Day Pass with what look like to be a very rewarding travel in getting to know more of Switzerland.
I will study closely your recommendations and come up with a final plan for the day with a definite break along the way.
Thanks again 1960man. You made my day! So lovely to have this myswisscom website.
Yes, the Saver Day Pass is very convenient. It covers all of Switzerland, no tickets required for trains, buses and boats. Just hop on and off for the day. Perfect for your GoldenPass trip! Note, surcharges are not included in the Saver Day Pass, this goes for the GoldenPass Express Prestige class. https://www.myswissalps.com/goldenpass/tickets
You can research the timings of the GoldenPass Belle Epoque train and GoldenPass Panoramic trains via the timetable link: https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable
I am not sure if you have purchased your Saver Day Pass as yet. They can only be bought online and have to be purchased prior to your day of travel – so not on the day itself. More information on the pass itself, the coverage map, where to buy and how to use can be found here: https://www.myswissalps.com/saverdaypass
Thank you so much Yolanda for the quick additional info on my planned Golden pass trip using a Saver Day Pass and yes, I’ve already purchased my ticket in advance.
I am travelling economically so no train prestige class for me. I appreciate though the option available so thanks for pointing that out.
I would like to prove to myself that it is possible to discover the nice places & sights of Switzerland on a small budget and myswissalps’ teams assistance has been very valuable.
Great to hear. I agree and credit to you. Switzerland can definitely be explored economically. Here is a further link that you should find helpful, if you have not already read it.
