COVID test for returning from Switzerland to US

Short summary – read this first

Lisa is planning a trip to Zurich in June and is looking for information on free COVID testing options before her return flight to the US. She found conflicting details about testing availability at the Zurich airport and is seeking advice on where to get tested without paying the airport's fee.

Key takeaways:
  • Check the Optum Store for COVID-19 test kits that can be monitored remotely, which might save you money on testing fees.
  • Search online for other local testing sites in Switzerland, as there are several available options.
  • If you choose an at-home test, download necessary apps in advance to ensure everything goes smoothly.
  • Keep an eye on expiration dates for your test kits to avoid any issues when traveling.

I apologize in advance for asking this question. I know it is probably answered somewhere on the forums but I couldn’t find it.

I saw somewhere that someone posted there was free COVID testing at the Zurich airport Novotel . I have looked at there site and can not fine an e-mail address in order to verify that this testing service will still be available in June when we arrive in Zurich. Is there anyone that can verify this information of can tell me where else we can be tested before our return flight back to the US? I know the airport has testing but they are charging 69 CHF and I am having trouble finding out how to schedule an appointment.

Please share any feedback you can on testing for return to the US? I would very much appreciate it.

    Thank You,

    Lisa

    Hi Lisa,

I am not sure about the free testing opportunity at the airport. As far as I know, everybody has to pay for the test if it is travel related.
At http://www.flughafen-zuerich.ch/en/passengers/news/corona/general-information you can try the links to book an appointment for your test. I believe this is the one for 69 CHF for an antigen test.

More test places in Switzerland can be found at http://www.myswissalps.com/coronavirus/planning.

One more thing, please do not say sorry, we are here to help and happy to help 🙂

    Hi Lisa,

I just purchased two 2 packs of monitored COVID-19 Tests for return to the USA from the Optum Store. $69 USA for 2 tests. Download the Navica app prior to your trip, use your hotel’s wifi to be monitored, and get official results in the app. United Airlines had the link in their travel ready center. There was also a 6 pack available from Emed. We figured this was a good option, and as US health insurance is now required to reimburse at $12 per test, fairly economical. We’ll be using ours next month and fingers crossed that there are no long online waits and it works as expected!

Thank you both so much for the information. I have used the 6 pack of Emed test kits before when we went on a cruise. The ones I have left are expired and I didn’t want to have to pay for 6 more. I really appreciate the link for the optum store where I can buy just the two I need.

Thank you for the links of the COVID testing in Germany. I will make apts. for testing at the airport and have the on line test kits as a back up just in case.
