Discount to Paris with Swiss Travel Pass

Short summary – read this first

Donna is planning an 8-day trip starting in Zurich and ending in Lausanne before heading to Paris. She is looking for information on discounts for the TGV train for Swiss Travel Pass holders and is also seeking recommendations for her time in the Berner-Oberland. She departs in three weeks and appreciates any tips others may have.

Key takeaways:
  • The Swiss Travel Pass does not offer discounts for trips outside of Switzerland, including the TGV to Paris.
  • It's best to buy your tickets to Paris in advance for better prices.
  • Ordering the Swiss Travel Pass online is convenient, and it's advisable to print a copy along with having a digital version on your phone.
  • For recommendations in the Bernese Oberland, explore information found through local tourism websites.

Hi and thank you for all the great info on your site!

I was planning on buying an 8 day Swiss travel pass starting in Zurich with our last stop in Lausanne before going to Paris. While researching TGV Lausanne to Paris, I saw an old post that stated there is or was, a discount for Swiss Travel Pass holders. Is this still true? If so, how can I find the fare on the site? Is it recommended to buy in advance?

Any other recommendations would be appreciated. We plan to spend most of our time in the Berner-Oberland. We leave in 3 weeks!!

    Thanks, Donna

    Hi Donna,

The Swiss Travel Pass includes free traveling to the border (e.g. Geneva or Vallorbe), but no discounts on trips outside of Switzerland. You can buy a ticket to Paris from the border here: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/france – the further ahead you buy the better the price usually.

With the Swiss Travel Pass, I think it is easiest to order it online: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/price

You can have it emailed to you and show it to the train staff from your phone. You need to also print a copy just in case as that is what is officially asked for.

If you’d like general tips in things to see and do in the Bernese Oberland look here: http://www.myswissalps.com/be rneseoberland

Let us know if you have any other questions on tickets or activities you may have!

Thank you for the information! Another question occurred to me. I saw pics of a friend on a walkway on a cliff side but can’t find much info. What is this walkway, is it near Grindelwald and is it covered on the Swiss Travel Pass if cost?

    Thank you once again!

I would guess it was the Cliff Walk at First. http://www.myswissalps.com/grindelwaldfirst
