Greetings!

Can you please provide details or links to easy, well marked hikes (under 4-5 Km) in Kandersteg and Mt Rigi areas?

Hi wanderdiva,

I’ve not been in the Kandersteg area for hikes but there are quite a few to consider.

Have a look at the information from the Kandersteg tourism site here: http://www.kandersteg. ch/en/s/home and be sure to use the search box (top right of web page) for “Kandersteg hike” and you’ll find quite a few threads on the subject.

For Rigi, the mountains website lists your options quite thoroughly and should help you: https://www.rigi.ch/en /Experience-Enjoy/Summer/Hiking

I hope that helps get you started on your planning. Hopefully another member who has done hiking in the area will chime in too!

The hikes on and around the Rigi are mainly easy, especially of you take the train to the top plateau zone first. Many people walk around on the Rigi in sandals…

At Kandersteg, if you arrive from Spiez (ie travelling south) , get off at the station and look towards the direction the train you have got off is going. you will see the motor vehicle shuttle trains loading to the right hand side. walk down the steps at the south end of the platform (platform 1) past the Kiosk shop. Cross the road by the bridge under the railway. Do not go under the railway, but carry on up the minor road called Eisbahnweg, alongside the railway which will be on your right.

Keep going due south following the yellow walking signs and with the railway still to your right.

You will eventually come back to the railway. You will start seeing groups of Scouts… Cross under the railway and turn right past the International Scout centre to walk back to Kandersteg following the river, with an optional diversion up to the Allmenbach waterfall from where you can see people tackling the via ferrate extreme hiking route (there is also a small off the beaten track cable car)

Hi,

As already noted, the walks around the Rigi are pretty easy. There’s a quaint sign post near the top railway station showing the 2 paths to the top, one with an old bloke, the other one younger.

The big attraction at Kandersteg is Oeschinensee which is a beautiful mountain lake that is reached by chair lift and a short hike. There are some very pleasant walks in this area.

If you take the small cablecar up to the Allmenalp, there is a mountain restaurant and a signpost marked with destinations and walking times. I haven’t done any of these, i was there to do the Klettersteig and was too exhausted to do anything except wolf down a Rosti at the restaurant and catch the cablecar back down.

I would definitely want to visit Oeschinensee and Blausee in Kandersteg.
