Eiger trail: snow in late June? Ropes needed?
A traveler is planning a trip to Grindelwald during the last week of June and wants to know if the Eiger trail will be hikeable or still snow-covered. They also seek clarification on whether ropes are necessary for hiking the trail, given their experience as day hikers but not with ropes.
- The Eiger Trail typically opens around the first week of July, so it may not be hikeable in late June due to snow.
- Ropes are not required on the Eiger Trail; they are present for difficult sections but are mainly for assistance.
- The trail is generally undulating and offers great views, with several rest stops and a restaurant at Alpiglen.

Hi!
We will be in Grindelwald in the last week of June next year. Is the Eiger trail usually hikeable at that time or is still snow-covered? Also, I have read some references to ropes being needed and other descriptions not mentioning it at all. What is the level of difficulty (we’re experienced day hikers but not used to ropes)? Thanks for any info you can provide.
