Hiking the Engelberg Four Lakes trail, end August
A traveler, Maverick, is excited about their upcoming trip to Switzerland, which starts in a week. They want to hike sections of the four lake hike from Engelberg and have specific questions about cable cars, hiking times, and transport options. The community offers helpful answers to make their planning easier.
- Yes, you can take a cable car from Truebsee to Jochpass and another from Jochpass to Engstlensee.
- The walk from Jochpass to Engstlensee takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes in dry weather, so wear good boots.
- There is no train between Tannap and Melchsee-Frut, but a bus service is available; check timetables for details.
- For the shortest travel from Melchsee-Frut to Engelberg, take a bus to either Sachseln or Stans, then a train.

On my second trip to Switzerland that starts in just a week from now, I was planning to cover sections of the four lake hike with shortcuts (cable car/tourist train ) in Engelberg and i would be really grateful if someone can answer a few questions that i have as follows;
- can we take a cable car from truebsee to jochpass and another cable car to engstlensee? how long is the walk from jochpass to engtlensee?
- how much time is required to walk from engstlenalp to tannap? Is that an easy hike?
- is there a train between tannap and melchsee-frut and where can i find a time table for it?
- what is the best and shortest travel option from melchsee-frut to Engelberg?
