Geneva old town visit with Science museum

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is arriving in Geneva in June and wants to explore the old city before visiting the History of Science Museum by boat. They need clear instructions on how to get to the boat from the old town and the return route to the train station after their visit.

Key takeaways:
  • Board the Mouette at Molard and take lines M1, M3, and M4 to reach Châteaubriand.
  • Tickets for the Mouettes are valid for one hour across the entire public transport network, so you won’t need a separate ticket for each line.
  • While in the old town, visit the Magnin relief model of the walled city at the historic Maison Tavel.

In June, I will be arriving at the Geneva train station and would like to walk around the old part of the city and then take a boat to the History of Science Museum. Can someone please supply specifics as to how to get to the boat from the old city and which mouette line to take. Then the way to return to the train station from the museum via boat and walking.

Hi JPAR, and welcome to Geneva!

Board the Mouette at Molard, and take M1, then M3, finally M4to Châteaubriand.

Coming back, walk along the Lake until the first bridge, turn right into rue du Mont-Blanc and you’ll arrive at the train station.

Thank you! Is a separate ticket required for each of the Mouette lines?

Mouettes are part of the Geneva public transport system. A ticket is valid for one hour on the entire network.

In the old town, don’t miss the Magnin relief model of the walled city pre-1850. It is housed in the Maison Tavel, itself historic:
